The Eliza Anderson carried international mail, freight and passengers from Olympia up to Steilacoom and Seattle, and then through the San Juan Islands to Victoria. The Anderson was also an essential link in the tiny Puget Sound underground railroad, and the ship's brave steward was a member of the conspiracy that smuggled Charles Mitchell to freedom.
