Obama inauguration adds extra meaning to MLK Day

East Union Street near 18th Avenue is a sea of chanting people participating in Monday’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day rally at Garfield High School and march to downtown Seattle. Carmaleigh “Miss Purple” Rice (white coat) and Ana Mensah, 20, held hands at front of the line. Mensah is from Ghana and has lived in the U.S. for seven years; Rice is her mentor at the Jefferson Community Center.
