Spectrum's Donald Byrd asks everything of his dancers, and his audience

Byrd loads his dance pieces with an abundance of sometimes esoteric messages and references, in hopes that the viewer will think about the show long after the performance. His "Farewell: A Fantastical Contemplation on America's Relationship with China," was created to promote understanding between the two countries.
