The uncommonly clean water in Dabob Bay has a powerful filter working in its favor: healthy forests in the leeward Olympic Mountains, mostly National Forest or National Parks land, loom to the west. Many public timberlands in the heavily forested foothills adjacent to the bay are being transferred to conservation status.
