Old N. Capitol Hill home has an art-filled new life

Lead Pencil set its work apart right at the first step, with walnut stair treads off the main-floor oak. Floors on the second and third floors are also walnut. At the second floor, stairs continue upward in blackened steel, the treads pitted for easy gripping. The vertical gray concrete wall travels three floors.
