Farmers worry that road project will turn productive bees into roadkill

Alkali bees are raised by growers in Walla Walla County in carefully tended bee beds such as this one, with irrigation pipes underground to keep the soil moist and salt on top to discourage vegetation so roots won't invade bees' nests.
