"Dump is a dirty word in this business," says the Roosevelt Landfill's environmental manager, Art Mains, who points out that his facility was built for the express purposes of producing cheap electricity that actually takes methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, out of the air. Trash comes from as far away as Alaska.
