Garden designer works magic with a pot and a few foliage plants

Portland designer Lauren Hall-Behrens likes to set a scene in her garden by placing pots right into garden beds, though she warns you'll need a path in to water them. A tall black urn is a year-round focal point, especially effective in summer when a snowy Brugmansia 'Betty Marshall' and metallic purple Setcreasea purpurea are at their showiest.
