THEN: The Beaumont, upper-left, at 1512 Summit Ave., in 1920 was one of hundreds of apartment houses built on First and Capitol hills in the early 20th century. Between the building's bays and framed at the center, open balconies led to the hallways on the apartment's top four floors, offering breezeways in the summer.
