Solar storm shakes Earth magnetic field

The Aurora Borealis glows in the northern sky late Tuesday in this image taken over the Great Plains from a Seattle-bound airplane. The northern lights usually aren't visible this far south, but Western Washington residents might catch a glimpse because of a solar storm.
