Brownstein seems to take inordinate pleasure in dressing up as various outlandish characters on "Portlandia." "I think when Fred and I embody different characters, that's a way for me to understand an emotional or interior landscape I don't often allow myself to explore normally," she says. "I've always used performance as a means of finding my place in the world."
