Surging enrollment blindsides Seattle schools

Schmitz Park Elementary, West Seattle: A student leaves the main school building and heads for the playground. In the background are several of the 10 portable classrooms the school uses. Parents refer to the school as a "portable village" and complain of overcrowding. The only bathrooms are in the main building.
