Don Young, a competitive pumpkin grower who held the world record for a pumpkin that weighed 1,658 pounds, with one of his giants, in Des Moines, Iowa. He pampers his pumpkins with 27,000 gallons of water a month. When it's chilly, he runs heat lamps. In the sweltering Iowa summer, he runs fans to cool his gourds. Young says he can't recall the last time he took a vacation.
