"I'm a little bit different than most (lighting designers) in that I don't disregard the face," Chiarelli says. "I think a lot of what I see and what I don't like in other designers' work is that they completely ignore the face and the upper body. I think that disrupts the balance. The dancers are working as hard as they can to show you everything, not just their feet."
