A mansion is remade to make room for musings on the finer things

Cathy Conner of Studio C did wall treatment in the library, layered paints and wax, like an encaustic painting. "When you look at it, it's almost like leather," Shoup says. "The books are all art books. And the couch is my first acquisition, a Schoonbeck couch made in Grand Rapids (Mich.). I could have bought a car for what I paid for that couch back then." The glass fruit are by Flora Mace and Joey Kirkpatrick.
