Frustration, pride in a year of danger

On a patrol through the pomegranate orchards of Afghanistan's Arghandab Valley, 1st Battalion soldiers check out abandoned mud huts for signs of the Taliban. The soldiers waged some of their toughest firefights in the orchards.
