Handcrafted beauty hides utility in a gracious Seattle condo

Werner says he and architect Steve Hoedemaker originally drew a much bigger island in the kitchen, at right, but "when we mocked it out it looked like somebody parked a car in there, so we reduced the scale." The island includes deep, flat drawers for photography and art. It also has a lighted glass panel on top that Nancy says makes any floral arrangement look professional.
