With one bold stroke, designer Cevan Forristt created plentiful seating and a sense of scale in the O'Neill-Soper garden in Palo Alto, Calif. The curve of the brawny bench seems to embrace the house; its length and shape give a feeling of simplicity and intimacy to the entire garden. Yet it's also richly atmospheric, decked out with cushions, candles and a cozy fire pit.
