Seattle's 'new urbanism': making smart, sustainable, stylish dwellings

At the Boulders project overlooking Green Lake in North Seattle, eight town homes surround a courtyard defined by 200 tons of granite boulders. Developer Bill Parks decided against squeezing the maximum number of units onto the sloping property, choosing instead a complex layout of homes with different orientations and floor plans. The rushing waterfall that cascades through the site mitigates traffic noises.
