Logging and landslides: What went wrong?

"We got 8 inches of rain in a 10-hour period," said Jim Ward, a Weyerhaeuser geologist who holds a chart showing hourly precipitation in the Stillman River basin during the December storm. "... We got a lot of big failures in this area." Weyerhaeuser officials place most of the blame for the landslides on the extraordinary rainfall.
