New, Improved South Lake Union

As the old neighborhood's roots are covered, it is remembered on plaques that recount the area's past. This plaque is embedded in the sidewalk along Minor Avenue near Thomas Street, one of about 80 installed in South Lake Union by Vashon Island artist Elizabeth Conner. Made of archival images and artifacts, the plaques are a barometer of change, Conner says.
