New, Improved South Lake Union

Artist Bill Fahey sketches the Van Vorst Building on Boren Avenue and Harrison Street so he'll be able to remember it. The century-old building was used as a furniture warehouse and stable for delivery-wagon horses by Frederick & Nelson department store. It later became the C.B. Van Vorst mattress factory. Most of the building will be demolished to make room for Amazon.com offices. Paul Allen's firm plans to preserve the historic façade.
