Capturing A Past

Shot at the 1903 Umatilla Reservation Independence Day celebration, this photo shows Chief No Shirt's wife, Mrs. No Shirt (Thunder), with a Navajo blanket under her saddle. Plateau people began trading for Navajo items through the Shoshones in the 1820s.
