GINO ROSSI
Our music in pictures, from brass bands to grunge
This was selected as the cover photo for "Music in Washington" even though the band pictured, Paul Revere and the Raiders, called Oregon home. The crowd at this 1964 concert at Seattle Center's Exhibition Hall was notable for its size — as well as its racial mix. The number of African Americans in the audience speaks to the influence of rhythm-and-blues on the Raiders and many of Washington's most popular early rock bands.
