Seattle moves to forefront in global fight to save lives

Tiny valves are being checked on a lab-on-a-card system. Micronics, a UW spinoff, is helping develop systems to quickly diagnose malaria and other fevers in remote villages. Shown at right: Funding from the Gates Foundation is helping PATH develop a better diaphragm and a female condom women can use to protect themselves against AIDS.
