Milfoil battle clears Bellevue beaches

MIKE SIEGEL / THE SEATTLE TIMES

A lifeguard patrols an empty swimming area at Meydenbauer Beach Park in Bellevue on Monday afternoon after Meydenbauer and Clyde beach parks were closed and treated with an herbicide to control invasive milfoil blooms. The beaches, closed on Monday, will reopen on Tuesday. Also, the swimming area of Newcastle Beach Park will be closed on Wednesday while a neighbor near that beach treats the waters near their home for the same reason. Only the swimming areas will be closed, and the rest of the parks will remain open.
